A natural byproduct of landfills is the production of digestive gases. These gases, primarily methane and carbon dioxide, with trace balance gases, are considered very strong greenhouse gases. In fact, while we hear about reducing our carbon footprint by minimizing carbon dioxide release, methane is more than 20 times more potent as a greenhouses gas. By monitoring and controlling the release of methane, we receive two benefits - reduced impact on our environment and the conversion of waste to energy through capturing and burning the methane to create energy. Landfill Gas is a one-two punch toward protecting the environment!
